Second Year Exemption

Sorority and fraternity houses have the option to apply to be Second Year Approved. This approval allows for second year students to be automatically exempted from living in university residence halls. You can find specific information regarding this policy here. Sorority and fraternity facilities are privately owned, off campus facitliies. If you have questions or concerns about your SFL facility, the Fall 2024 House Corporation Contacts list will provide contact information for questions or concerns. 

Exemption Process

Sororities and fraternities are responsible for submitting their members for exemption for the upcoming fall by the assigned deadline.  Members on the lists are then sent to Housing and Residence Education for exemptions to be processed.  Once students are exempted, they will recieve a confirmation email.  All rising sophmores are subject to the deadlines of housing contracts as outlined by the university.  If students continue to recieve emails regarding the housing selection process, they should contact sfloffcampus@osu.edu to confirm that their name has been submitted for exemption.  University housing contracts are not transferable to chapter facilities.  The deadline to cancel a housing contract is March 31, 2025. 

Billing and Cost

SFL chapter facilities are off campus and therefore cost and billing are controlled by the house corporation and/or chapter. If you have financial aide or Ohio 529 plan you are encouraged to review that plan and check with financial aid to see if that plan will cover costs associated with living in a chapter facility.
